ORGANIZATION: Above and Beyond family Recovery Center

  • 15 people are interested

The family of counselors and loving hearts at Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center seeks an exceptionally creative person with an ability to recognize fleeting magic moments and capture them on film, or digitally. We want to merge with a person who can donate their extraordinary abilities to locate beauty in pain, pulchritude in anguish, and passion in depression . . . and capture it in images, still or otherwise.

We are looking for someone who is able to depict the individual dignity, the unique humanity that is present in each of our clients who are either, primarily, homeless substance abusers or "returning citizens" who are experiencing fresh freedom after incarceration experiences.

It's a rare opportunity that many artists would consider to have miraculous potential but to us it is just everyday life that we want to show to the rest of the world in a manner that stops them in their tracks and forces them to pay attention. We are not talking about pain porn, but capturing raw, authentic beauty that comes directly from the hearts of our people, and shines right through their pain.

We bought a polaroid and about 10 packs of film so that we could capture the smiles of our clients and put them on a wall that we would call our "Wall of Smiles", but because we are so busy, it is just sitting here after 6 months, untouched.

Help us.

We want our substance-abused clients to be seen as the beautiful people that they are. They are very different than the rest of the world because they behave in ways that the rest of the world doesn't understand. We want you to help the rest of the world see them for who they really are underneath all the failure, relapsing, and pain.

So we need "another one of us." A quirky, kind of funny in a clumsy way, a brilliant visual artist who knows how to twist up images in new and different ways that will turn heads. The experience of contributing to the countless number of life-changing events is transformational and rewarding in a very rare way. The uniqueness of our treatment center is evident upon entry, but our clinical protocol is what stands the recovery "norms" on their heads.

Please send me and e-mail and let's connect!
