ORGANIZATION: City of San Rafael Volunteer Program

Make a difference in a child’s life by volunteering to assist new readers build their skills and confidence and to share your enthusiasm about reading. Volunteers encourage young learners to engage with reading at a new level by assisting with pronunciation, helping with difficult words, introducing new words, and answering questions to increase comprehension and general concepts. Our new readers are generally children in first through third grade. Qualifications: Patience, ability to explain meanings, calm attitude, clear pronunciation, enthusiasm for books and reading, experience working with children. Volunteers must be aged 18 years or older.

Time commitment: Volunteers can commit to either a 1 hour weekly shift. We currently need volunteers on the following shifts: Tuesdays, 5-6pm, Thursdays, 5-6pm, Sundays 2-3pm.
