The new incarnation of roller derby, played on a flat track, is a growing sport in the US and around the world. Come learn about it by providing support at practices and community events, and by helping us host games, better known as bouts. Get into the action!
We are in search of people who want to be a part of a community family and there are many levels of involvement. We need people to take tickets and sell merchandise. We need skating referees, official timers, scorekeepers, recordkeepers, and penalty box staff. We are looking for managers and coaches, board members, committee chairs, and others with organizational experience. Sometimes we need a volunteer D.J., half-time entertainment, or someone to sing the national anthem. And, hey! We always need skaters. As we get more players, we will build more teams.
If you want to learn about derby and hang out with a great group, please contact us. Let us know what you want to do with us, and we will try to make it happen!
The Brawlin' Betties have been a Santa Barbara home team for close to 10 years. Our league is Mission City Roller Derby. Our primary focus is supporting an adult women's team to compete with other teams in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). However it is not our only purpose. We are an organization made up of humans of all genders who have fun together:
- promoting roller derby
- teaching members who want to skate
- building fitness and skills
- learning leadership roles
- contributing to community groups and events
- and we sometimes host co-ed games!
The nature of our non-profit promotes all forms of personal strength, without regard to a person's size, gender, experience, or level of involvement. In the past we have coordinated with Girls, Inc., Domestic Violence Solutions, the Page Youth Center, Summer Solstice Parade, and local Veterans groups through one of our sponsors.
We hope to hear from you, and feel free to spread the word!
