The Landing is in need of volunteers. Please call 360-420-9390 for more details.

The Landing is a children’s bereavement program that serves families in Skagit, Island, Whatcom and Snohomish Counties. There are more than 200 children currently in programs at The Landing, including groups at the facility, at Sedro-Woolley High School, and Cascade Middle School. That number does not include the parents or guardians who also attend meetings at the Landing.

Mission
Our mission is founded on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive and understanding environment, we strive to provide families in the Skagit County area and surrounding region loving support in a safe place where children, teens, and their families grieving a death can share their experience as they move through the dealing process.

We Believe...

  • Grieving is nature’s path to healing
  • Youths grieve as intensely as adults, but in different ways
  • The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual
  • Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process
  • Childhood losses can result in difficulties in behavior or relationships that continue in adulthood.

The Death of a Loved One
Imagine what it must be like for a child who suffers the death of a parent, sibling, or someone special in their life. Who can they turn to for support? Their friends shy away because they don’t know what to say or do. It’s hard to talk to other family members because they are already grieving. How do they cope with the death of a loved one? In Skagit, Island, and North Snohomish Counties they can come to The Landing, a safe and loving place where kids can share with others.

Helping Children Grieve
The Landing provides support so children and teens ages 3-18 can share their experiences as they move through the healing process. Supportive services are also extended to families, caregivers and the community.

What We Offer

  • Ongoing support groups for children and their families whether the death occurred through illness, accident, suicide or murder. Our volunteers work closely with the children, teens, and parents to create a supportive environment where sharing feelings and concerns helps to facilitate the healing process.
  • Anticipatory grief support services are available for children, teens and families experiencing the impact of a life challenging illness of a family member or significant person in their life.

The Landing relies on our dedicated group of volunteers and the contributions from individuals, businesses, clubs, organization, and foundations.
