Do you have an hour or two to spare each week in the spring and fall? No angry competition. Just fun! You don’t have to know much about baseball. You just need a heart for the players and a compassionate, enthusiastic spirit. It’s the most rewarding coaching experience you’ll ever have. As we continue to grow, we are looking for more dedicated coaches that fit in with our mission and vision. We truly have the best baseball in Pittsburgh! Come be a part of it!

Coaches (1-2 hours a week during the 6 week season)

  • Ensure a safe playing environment.
  • A Coach is an important volunteer position in the Miracle League. It is probably one of the most rewarding, too.
  • A Coach is responsible for all aspects of their team to include communicating to parents, players, and buddies.
  • Attending every game during the season*
  • Assigning buddies to a player or game day job during a game.
  • Coaches are responsible for everything that happens inside of the fence on the field.
  • All Coaches must pass a criminal background and child abuse background check.
  • Coordinate team activities with the coaching staff and maintain contact with players and families.
  • Ensure that each player receives a uniform.
  • Communicate concerns regarding specific players to the League officials.
  • Provide copies of team line-up to umpire and announcer before each game.
  • Make sure players have the opportunity to learn new skills. Keep up the team spirit.
  • Pitch during games.
*We understand somethings come up (trips, weddings, family situations). We simply ask that you are committed to your team and only have to miss if it is necessary. The players depend on you!

About Miracle League of the South Hills

Location:

Mission Statement

The Miracle League of the South Hills creates an environment of acceptance for people with disabilities and their families, with baseball as the root, as we promote meaningful, authentic relationships that connect people on the field as well as in the community.

Description

It’s almost funny how simple it can be. An empty lot. A patch of dirt. Some lines of chalk. A community park where dreams and desire take root. A global stage where heroes and legends are born. A classroom where lessons and character are shaped. A field. While they do take on a life of their own, they don’t build themselves. This particular diamond started as the wish of a hometown boy, MLB All-Star Sean Casey, who wanted to give back. To share his love of the game with those who otherwise might only watch from the stands. And as the plays and smiles grew, so did the park where all are welcome. A place that has attracted many. Many who share a passion not only for the game, but for the lessons it imparts. While it may have started as a way of saying thank you, this field has grown into a community, or better yet, a family. And like any family's love, there is room to grow. Here, the impact of each gift can be seen, felt, and even hugged. For at this field, between these lines, miracles happen.
