ORGANIZATION: Artportunity Knocks

Our mission is to empower youth through POSITIVE Arts self-expression, EDUCATION, community service, and bridging the cultures through the Arts. Our programs are designed to enrich the students' educational experience by exposing children from varying economical backgrounds to different forms of dance, art, music from different cultures in an effort to bridge the culturals through the arts.

This high quality and Award Winning Music and Arts After-School Enrichment program in Metro Atlanta is currently seeking volunteers to be Mentors, Academic Tutors and Instructors for this highly effective program. Also, If you can teach a unique form of art, then we want you to SHARE YOUR GIFT! OR if you are the best at making kids have fun through recreational activities, or teaching new concepts through Academics, then you would be a great mentor!

More than 90% of the students in our programs cannot afford advance tutoring, traditional lessons or camps and count on the generous gift of time from our volunteers to give them ACCESS to high quality Arts/Music, Educational tutoring, and loving mentorship during the school year. Because of our volunteers, we were able to impact over 7,000 students in 2014! We have several options listed below.

Please send us your availability for September - December. Choose from: Academic Enrichment: Math, Science, Reading, and Writing and/or Performing Arts Classes: Dance, Acting/Theater, Vocal, Piano, Guitar Fine Arts: Painting and Drawing. Technical Arts: Video Production/Film and Music Production/Recording.

Mission Statement

Artportunity Knocks mission is to empower youth to make positive and smart choices while increasing opportunities in the Arts, Education, Community Service and Bridging Cultures. The organization was established in the Metro Atlanta area in 2007 with a focus on providing stem and arts education that's culturally diverse and accessible to all youth in K-12th grades throughout the state of Georgia.

Description

The organization provides a nurturing and safe environment that fosters learning and creativity during the school year and summer months. Our primary demographic target ages 6-18, with an emphasis on the "tween" age groups (9-13). Our programs currently support students located within the Metropolitan region of Atlanta, Georgia with a reach that expands to over 10,000 students.

Among the specific activities provided at our site are:

  • Homework Assistance/Tutoring
  • Nutritious Snacks
  • Performing Arts Classes: Dance, Theater, Rap/Poetry/Spoken Word
  • Music Classes: Instrumentation, Theory, Voice
  • Fine Arts Classes: Culinary Arts, Painting, Photography, Fashion Design, Animation
  • Technical Arts Classes: Music Production & Engineering, Filmmaking, Computer Animation
  • Coding, Robotics, Technology, Engineering, Esports & Gaming
  • Physical Recreation: Fitness, Sports, Martial Arts
  • Mentorship

We also host positive concerts in hopes of giving not only Artportunity Knocks students, but other up and coming artists an opportunity to perform live.
