On this years National Day of Service, The Tacoma 1st Platoon will once join forces with the Veteran Conservation Corps and the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, to transform underutilized land at the Washington State Soldiers Home and Colony into shared spaces that will empower Soldiers Home Veterans and the Orting, WA community as a whole.

This will be our third Service Project at the farm, with the year coming full circle, while we continue to make an impact.

This will be an intense and high impact project that includes building demolition and debris removal, prairie restoration, development of a native tree nursery and agripreneurship plots, and wetland mitigation and restoration.

This project is continuing to build on the foundation set over the last two years, for a long term strategy by the Veterans Conservation Corps to protect the natural resources of the Soldiers Home and surrounding area while unlocking the healing potential of ecotherapy for our Veterans.

We will celebrate our good work with some social food and activities after we get dirty for the cause.

Mission Statement

We are on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities: empowering veterans to continue their service, while empowering communities with the talent, skills and preparedness of veterans to generate visible impact.

Description

The Mission Continues is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit that empowers veterans to continue their service, and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.

Veterans possess the drive and desire to serve others, but without access to the tools needed, their potential to make meaningful impact at the local level remains untapped. On the other end of the spectrum growing numbers of communities in this country are under-resourced and being left behind.

At The Mission Continues, we’re on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities.

Our programs in cities across the country deploy veteran volunteers alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, increase access to parks and green spaces, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Our vision is for all veterans with a desire to continue their service to be part of a movement to transform communities.
