ORGANIZATION: Bulverde/Spring Branch Library

Purpose: The Volunteer Tutor assists Bill Brown Elementary students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm in school subjects that they are struggling in as well as serving as a reading buddy.

Location: Bulverde/Spring Branch Library, 131 Bulverde Crossing, Bulverde, TX 78163

Key Responsibilities:

Tutors a particular school subject to a group of up to 3 students, may include one-on-one tutoring, homework help.

Serves as a "reading buddy" to students practicing their read-aloud skills

Communicate with teacher through a communication folder about subject areas needing improvement

Clearly communicating back to the teacher regarding material covered as well as any other concerns or accomplishments during the session in the communication folder

The Length of Appointment: The Volunteer Tutor’s hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:30pm and observe any holidays or training days listed on the Comal ISD’s academic calendar

Time Commitment: 2 hours per week during the 2017 - 2018 school year.

Qualifications: Knowledge of elementary school subjects such as math, science, and reading. Experience in education is preferred. Experience working with younger children, pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Support: An interview and brief training for this position will be provided. Also, the Youth Librarian will be available for questions and assistance.

I n January 2000 a special election established the Bulverde Area Rural Library District in the western portion of Comal County. The library’s name became The Bulverde/Spring Branch Library to reflect the service area of the Library District. The library is a beautiful 19,000 square foot facility with spectacular views. Our services include all types of physical and digital materials such as books, movies, audiobooks, music, magazines and newspapers. We offer many databases and free language learning resources. Our library provides literacy education such as ESL for non-English speakers, GED, and computer training courses, as well as children's and young adult programming, and adult leisure learning classes and workshops. We have public computers, printing, faxing and scanning services.
