The Red River Water Festival is scheduled for September 16-20, 23-25 at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. Classrooms will rotate through activities in the morning or afternoon to learn about water. This is one of our biggest events of the year and it cannot happen without volunteers like you. Can you sign up for one or more shifts? We have many shifts to fill throughout the event. If you prefer, you can also contact us directly to sign up at Kimberly@riverkeepers.org or 701.356.8915. If you are a teacher or a group/organizational leader that has a lot of people interested in signing up, we can schedule a time for River Keepers staff to come in and present about River Keepers, the water festival, and get your group signed up for shifts in person. General shifts:

  • Activity Assistants:
  • Assist our presenters with interactive fun activities to teach 3rd and 4th graders about the importance of water (possible topics include water properties, wetlands, fish, conservation, quality, history, etc.) The audience for the festival is classes of approximately twenty-five fourth graders from the Buffalo-Red Watershed District and the Southeast Cass Water Resource District. Examples of volunteer tasks include prepping and handing out supplies to students, holding up signage for presenters, and cleaning up before the next class rotates in.
  • Timers:
  • Give signals to our presenters to let them know it is time to rotate classrooms.
  • Set Up: September 16 from 1 - 4: p.m. Set up canopies outside or prepare teacher resource bags inside
  • Raise Canopies: September 17-10, 23-25 from 7:15 - 8:15 a.m.
  • Lower Canopies: September 17-18 from 1:40 - 2:40 p.m. or September 19-20, 23-25 from 11:05 - 12:05 p.m.
  • Take down: Take down outdoor canopies on Wednesday, September 25 at 11:05 a.m.
  • On-call volunteers: Willing to fill in when the unexpected happens and we have last-minute openings? Sign up to be "on call" to fill in for activity assistant and timer positions.
*Please note that shifts may change by 10-15 minutes depending on school availability. River Keepers staff will notify you of any changes immediately.
