The Florida Department of Health in Lake County, School Health program is seeking volunteers to assist in conducting children health screening in Lake County elementary and middle schools beginning in August thru February 2020. Health screening training will be provided by DOH-Lake staff. The volunteer schedule will be provided during the interview which is inclusive of assignment dates, times and school locations.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting DOH staff in outlying School Health immunization and health screening (hearing, vision, height, and weight) clinics in the school setting.

  • Pulling and preparing health records prior to health screening and immunization clinics.

  • Delivering equipment (that may weigh 30lbs) and supplies to outlying assigned schools and sets up area for clinics.

  • Explaining test procedures.

  • Recording screening and records screening results.

  • Assisting in keeping immunization records and maintaining inventory of medical supplies necessary for outlying school based immunization clinics.

  • Assisting nurse or medical provider in other screenings or procedures as required.

  • Attend scheduled visits to outlying schools.

  • Review and update records (i.e., immunization record, physical forms, screening results, and other medical data.)

  • Responsible for updating, certifying, and referring students for necessary follow-up for compliance with Florida Law.

  • Performs clerical work/data input pertinent to screenings, follow-up referrals and for immunization clinics inputting into Florida Shots and HMS. Enters data provided by School Health team into SHIP, FL Shots, and Health Management Systems (HMS).

    Qualifications:

  • The volunteer must have knowledge of basic medical terminology, knowledge of basic computer software, Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment, Skill in taking vital signs, Ability to follow instructions, Ability to keep accurate records and the ability to communicate effectively.

Training:

Background screening and training is required for all volunteers. Health Support Technician volunteers will be trained on DOH services, policies, and procedures. Computer training on various software can be supplied as necessary upon completion of appropriate Information Technology training.
