Seattle BrainWorks is a community based organization that offers support and skill building for individuals with traumatic brain injury. Participants are encouraged and assisted to fulfill their individual goals and pursuits in a safe and supportive community. BrainWorks offers vocational programs, independent living skill programs and personal and educational enrichment opportunities.

As a volunteer, you would assist staff in two main roles. First of which is assisting members towards their goals through one-on-one assistance. This could be helping a member work on their reading/reading comprehension, developing computer skills, learning socials skills/boundaries, cooking and much more. This role involves some administrative support as well through special projects assigned by staff and member outreach. The second role would be to primarily help with the enrichment aspect of our program. We are looking for people to lead classes/activities that would take place at a community center. Volunteers are encouraged to lead classes in which they have experience and/or interest. Some examples of enrichment opportunities are cooking classes, yoga, memory & attention strategies, book club, mindfulness, gardening, music, writing group, photography, blogging, etc..

No experience is necessary. Interest in brain injury and leadership skill is preferred. The minimum requirements that SBW is looking for in volunteers are as follows: Volunteers are available at least 1 day a week with at least a 3-month commitment. The day and amount of time you choose is flexible.

If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer opportunities please feel free to reach out to us directly.

SBW's hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm. We are NOT open on weekends or evenings.
