Purpose: The Intake Assistant volunteer documents information from clients in sessions of 30 minutes to an hour. New clients, whether housed or homeless, must go through this process in order to receive services. All clients currently receiving services are required to have an updated intake every year.
Requirements:
- Background check required due to sensitive nature of information
- Remote volunteering possible*
- Professional demeanor and punctuality are key
- Case Management skills or prior experience volunteering with vulnerable populations strongly preferred
* Volunteer must have a quiet space or room available where confidential information will not be overheard and must also receive training in-person before switching to remote.
Position Description:
The Intake Assistant Volunteer is usually the second contact for most clients after initial outreach. The volunteer is not responsible for knowing all the services available with LSS and can refer questions to the Outreach Case Manager; however, attention to detail is key when taking down client information. A new case file with the appropriate questions is given to the intake volunteer, who documents as much as possible about the client’s situation within the time scheduled for the appointment. These appointments traditionally take place in person but may be partially completed over the phone. Upon completion of the intake, the client’s information is set aside for LSS case managers to follow up.
Please inquire about safety procedures to protect volunteers if you are interested in this position.
Time Commitment:
One shift is 2-3 hours, typically once a week but this can be flexible.
