ORGANIZATION: STUDENT WRITERS STUDIO

Want to inspire and empower students to recognize their potential? Love to write? Become a Student Writers Studio Writing Coach! You will have the chance to tutor and mentor youth on their writing skills. We also welcome suggestions for your creative ideas in our curriculum! The only requirements are:

  • Love and enjoyment of mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students
  • Eagerness and passion for writing
  • Willing to tutor once a week for 4 months (We can find someone else to fill in if you need to miss a week here and there.)
This volunteer opportunity can help you to develop professionally as well as add to your resume. Volunteering at SWS is also perfect for those who just want to impact young minds.

This is also a good opportunity if you are interested in becoming a teacher and gaining additional professional skills.

This opportunity is a virtual opportunity on Monday - Thursday 4-5pm with the St. Louis Language Immersion School and Lafayette Preparatory Academy.

The mission of SWS is to build student writers K-12 by developing writing, thinking, and communication skills through a writing process and successful student-tutor relationships. This goal is reached through working with students to grow as writers and learners, empowering them to tell stories and use language.

Description

Our vision is to empower, enrich, and encourage students through their development as writers. We want to see students across the St. Louis area recognize their writing potential and use writing as a tool to instigate change in themselves and in their communities. We want to build the St. Louis community by putting education in the hands of our students.

The following programs will help in instituting this mission:

  • Individual tutoring

  • Group tutoring

  • Summer workshops

  • In-school workshops

  • Youth publishing programs
