Springs of Hope Foundation provide a free education to single young mothers. We provide vocational training in tailoring/sewing along with small business management and computer skills in small family groups of approximately 10 young women, along with their children. Although very eager to learn a trade and become self sufficient, most of our young women have not had the opportunity to attend high school. The young women and their children live with us in our home in Nakuru for one year while undergoing their free vocational training.

We welcome volunteers to help with a wide range of activities. You may be asked to help in the sewing or English as a 2nd language classrooms, with our school aged children's homework, sport activities, computer training, on a special construction project, or the many other chores on our property. We also may request your help in our office with fundraising, writing grant proposals, web page updates, updating our children's profiles, etc.

If you want to experience the awe-inspiring scenery of East Africa, see safari animals up close in the wild and make a real difference to a local community, volunteering in Kenya could be perfect for you! Working in Kenya is a real chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and try something completely different. Its stunning landscapes and natural beauty are known around the world, with truly amazing sights such as the Great Rift Valley. Safari is one of the things Kenya is most famous for and rightly so - elephants, giraffes, buffalo, leopards, zebras and many more animals can be regularly seen in the wild. Kenya is also home to fascinating and often ancient traditions from the melting pot of so many tribal cultures.

Volunteering in Kenya would be best suited to someone happy to escape the hustle and bustle of the contemporary life. However, we are located just a couple of kilometers from downtown Nakuru, where you can actually get a good cappuccino and a good, western style meal. If you want a chance to experience the real unspoiled Africa, this is the opportunity of a lifetime!
With extensive recent droughts in the area, diversifying the economy of the local area is important and one method of doing so is through learning English to help with trade. English can open up many new opportunities for these women.

Mission Statement

Build an efficient, open, thriving marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.

Description

GlobalGiving was founded by two former World Bank executives who decided to use the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace. The GlobalGiving platform enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe, and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give.
Because we enable donors to give directly to projects, they know exactly where their money is going. Donors can see progress updates on most projects as funding is received and goals are met.

Donations made through GlobalGiving are higher impact because:

  • Money is going directly to a well-defined project versus supporting general operating expenses
  • Projects on globalgiving.com have exposure to thousands of donors, enabling us to aggregate multiple sources of funding for each project
  • Many projects on globalgiving.com are located in the developing world where a little money goes a long way
