Title: Marvin Gaye Greening Center Urban Farm Assistant

Part Time: 10 hours minimum (This opportunity is flexible and is unpaid)

Location: Marvin Gaye Greening Center. 5000 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE

Main Responsibilities (Under the guidance of the Urban Farm Lead Steward):

  • Act as a volunteer representative for the Marvin Gaye Greening Center

  • Weed and water crops 2-3x a week

  • Perform routine checks of farm structures, tools, irrigation systems

  • Maintain all farming equipment, tools, and supplies

  • Work alongside Lead Steward to plant, harvest, and care for crops

Required and Desired Skills

  • Receptive to learning new farming/gardening methods and sharing existing knowledge of farming/gardening

  • Must be able to withstand typical demands for farm labor, such as walking, standing, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working outdoors in various weather

  • Willingness to embrace a commitment to sustainable community food systems and inclusive communities

  • Ability to work in a collaborative way with a small staff

  • Resourceful, flexible, and a self starter

  • Passionate about the mission of Parks & People
