ORGANIZATION: Opera NOVA

  • 12 people are interested

Opera NOVA is looking for a volunteer to write and maintain their newsletter. We are looking for someone with the love of opera and the classical arts who wants to spread the word on who Opera NOVA is and what we are doing.

People are interested in what Opera NOVA is up to, what is it doing, how it is evolving and adapting to a rapidly changing cltural environment. Our objective is to provide opera and recital concerts to the residents of Arlington and DC rather than out of town tourists and wealthy patrons, who are served by large institutions such as the Kennedy Center, Strathmore, and Signature Theatre.

Our parent organization, Opera Volunteers International, is interested in what we are doing and how we are fulfilling our mission offering opera to residents of Northern Virginia regardless of rece, socioeconomic status, age, ethnicity, and any other demographic.

Please contact Miriam Miller at mcdm1@verizon.net or at (703) 536-7557.

Mission Statement

Opera NOVA works to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

Description

Opera NOVA was founded in 1992 as a volunteer-based, non-profit charitable organization to bring the joy of opera to the local community and develop regional support for the performing arts by fostering an appreciation for local theater across generations.

The Guild is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has been recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) entity.

Over the years, Opera NOVA has offered major financial support for an annual family opera that is attended by school children during week day performances and by children with their families and community-based organizations on weekends. Because of our efforts, 50,000 school-aged children, many of whom would not have the opportunity otherwise, have attended an opera. The performances not only offer children a unique opportunity to hear an opera sung in English, but they also learn about various opera and theatre techniques, from special effects to the intricacies of set and lighting design.
