IRC

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The IRC is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is reflected in well-planned resettlement assistance, global emergency relief, rehabilitation, and advocacy for refugees. Founded in 1933, the IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people survive, recover, and rebuild their lives. The resettlement office in Salt Lake City provides services to approximately 500 newly arriving refugees per year.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Donations Assistant Intern will work closely with the development coordinator and donations assistant. This intern will support the ongoing needs of refugees through coordinating donation drop-offs and pick-ups with donors. As needed, this position will support the engagement of donors through recognition notes and events throughout the duration of the internship. In additional to the coordinating and planning, there are many pieces that must be accurately tracked to show organizational impact, which the intern will take a lead on. The development team supports all programs of the IRC and as such the needs of the role often change as priorities shift, so the best fit for this position is someone who is dedicated, flexible, fast-paced and always willing to find the humor in situations. The intern must be willing to lift and move furniture and basic household supplies, work with different team members in the office, enter data in computer systems, and will be required to interact with a number of individuals of differing ethnicities and English-language capabilities.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Donations assistance will include the following:

  • Organizing and tracking in-kind donations in storage units and office storage.
  • Assisting with pickup and delivery of in-kind donations.
  • Tracking distribution and aiding development coordinator and donations assistant with reporting.
  • Administrative duties including processing paperwork and maintaining clear records of donors and items
  • Other event planning and development related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
