What is Students of the Year?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year is an exciting leadership development and philanthropy program in which high school students participate in a fundraising competition to benefit LLS. Every dollar raised counts as one vote. The candidates/teams who raise the most money at the end of the 7 week competition will be announced at the Grand Finale Celebration the title Student(s) of the Year.
Once selected by our nomination committee, student(s) will form a team to raise money for LLS' mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The student(s) who raise the most money at the end of the seven weeks will earn a SCHOLARSHIP to the college/university of their choice.
This program ensures that the high student stands out among their peers when engaging with colleges and/or future employers. Through guidance and mentoring from experienced professionals at LLS, they will make a real impact in the fight against blood cancers.
Who Participates?
Students of the year candidates are high school students who are interested in and enthusiastic about volunteerism, philanthropy, community outreach, and leadership.
Benefits to Participants
Leukemia is the number one cancer killer of children under the age of 20. This is a powerful opportunity to help other youth battling blood cancers and raise awareness for the mission.
There are other benefits as well, such as:
- Demonstrating candidates' excellence in leadership and community engagement.
- Develop skills such as networking, communication, entrepreneurship, event management, goal setting, and presentations
