This position is for graduate students who would like more experience working with the special needs population. This position is one designed for an graduate student who will be with our sites for 6 or more months. Typically this position is designed for those wanting an in depth experience and is quite hands on. This position can accommodate those applying to eventual licensure as a LPC, LMFT, ABA, LP, LMSW, or other clinical field. It can also accommodate other fields for those wanting more direct experience.

This position also can be tailored for certain fields that do not require a counseling need or background. However for those working towards a clinical or mental health licensure, a broad experience is typically what is aimed for that would include counseling cases (individual and family), filial therapy through our CRT program, and co-therapist for a social skills group.

Those applying for this position should recognize that UTH has 2 sites and based on your number of needed hours may need to be available to drive to both the Frisco and the Denton location. All programs are on the following days: Thursday evenings, Friday evenings, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. However, those wishing to pursue the counseling agenda should be available on the weekend and also in the evenings after 4pm when children are not in school. Those individuals with the most flexibility will more easily accommodated. www.unitedthroughhope.org has an overview of all programs that an individual may be involved in.

The volunteer will be present at our site at least 12-15 hours per week (depending on their own program requirements) plus will need to be willing to read their emails to be prepared for the group lesson each week. Volunteers who succeed in this position are reliable, punctual, enjoy children & have an even temperament, and great communication. This position is for those individuals who are good at taking initiative and thinking ahead.

Training in disabilities and the program will be provided. Due to the nature of our clientele, a resume and a volunteer form will be required to be completed for this position as well as an observation at our site during the program will be required before a commitment can be made. This position can be a volunteer position or used for class credit, practicum, or internship.

United Through H.O.P.E., Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization started in 2012. Both Denton and Frisco locations are in renovated homes which highlight our emphasis on a naturalistic atmosphere where real life, naturalistic opportunities can unfold.

The staff at United Through H.O.P.E., Inc. strongly believes that no one raises their self, rather it takes a community of interested, imaginative, caring, and hopeful individuals to reach one's fullest potential.

All of our programs are designed to foster self-confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging and empowerment.

All of our programs are meant to be fun and age and/or developmentally appropriate. As learning is supposed to be engaging.

Each of our programs are meant to be non-exclusionary so anyone can participate. To be in our programs you do NOT have to be diagnosed, just have a social need. We practice inclusion so those with an identified issue or disability (such as AD/HD, Aspergers, autism, LD, intellectual or physical disability, anxiety, selective mutism, being bullied, feel left out, etc.) can participate fully.

All of our programs are mixed age, gender, race, grade, challenges, etc. to foster tolerance, acceptance, guidance, leadership, awareness, and empathy.
