Join the thousands of people caring for our Great Lakes during the Alliance’s September Adopt-a-Beach(tm) Event, part of the International Coastal Cleanup. The event is scheduled for September 16, but dates and times may vary. Volunteers who participate in the event not only remove debris, they also record their findings. Last year, 15,181 volunteers removed 40,211 pounds of trash from 1,388 cleanups.
Here are two ways you can participate:
- Volunteer: There are many designated locations that welcome volunteers. Volunteers will receive instructions and supplies to participate when they arrive at the event. To register, visit www.greatlakesadopt.org.
- Become a team leader: Team leaders recruit and organize volunteers to carry out the event. The Alliance will provide you with step-by-step instructions and supplies, including marketing materials, gloves, data collection cards, pencils and trash bags. After the event, team leaders enter their results into the online system.
