ORGANIZATION: The Princess Project Los Angeles Location

Are you mad for fashion? Is there nothing better to you than helping a teen find the right dress or outfit for their prom? Do you have retail dreams of inventory, racks of gorgeous formal dresses and searching for that perfect dress in the right size, color and fit? If so, please read on!

The Princess Project Los Angeles is starting its second year as a Princess Project non-profit location and we are recruiting for our Leadership Board. We are actively seeking a Dress Chair, Lead (Prom) for our Los Angeles leadership board for a minimum 2-year commitment.

The Princess Project Los Angeles mission is to create a safe place for teens and their families to come to and find the formal wear desired in an environment that embraces all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation, disabilities and body size. We receive our gowns in several different ways, including from our partners and sponsors but also from local dress drives and from individuals looking to donate gently used formal wear for us to then provide to the Los Angeles community at large. The Dress Chair, Lead (Prom) is the leader who ensures we have enough prom dresses for our prom giveaways each year. Duties include:

  • Strategy and Planning - Ability to review strategy for TPPLA goals for upcoming dress giveaways against inventory and create actionable plans for dress drives, individual donations and partner/sponsor donations.
  • Metrics - Escalate dress gaps in the inventory by size, style and/or color and ensure approved dresses are purchased, inventoried, and kept in good order between events. Keep a budget of expenses per event for dresses, racks, storage, dress delivery, etc.
  • Volunteer Management - Align with the Dress Chair, Lead (Special Programs) and Dress Chair, Lead (QuinceaƱera) to recruit and lead a committee of Regional Dress Chairs - 18 total, 1 per region) and volunteers for all public dress giveaways.
  • Communication including verbal and written communications. The Dress Chair, Lead (Prom) also coordinates communication with the Regional Dress Chairs so that high schools, churches, YMCAs, Girls and Boys Clubs and other teen organizations are aware of our dress giveaway dates

It is a big job and requires a love of dresses, organization and commitment to the role but with strong Regional Dress Chairs and a strong committee, these responsibilities can easily be done in 10 or so hours per month.

The time committment for this role during these formative years varies per month but averages 10-15 hours a month except during prom season (end of February through beginning of May) where additional time may be needed at various public giveaway events. Each year, we have a three-day planning retreat for all The Princess Project leadership for the upcoming year in July or August that is required for all board members. For more information on this role or to apply, please go to our Leadership Board Application: https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?ap=859850980 Information on this role including duties and qualification which can be found linked to the role title in the form.

Description

The Princess Project is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit that began in San Francisco in 2002 and expanded into the greater Bay Area, San Diego and now is in Los Angeles.

The Princess Project Los Angeles promotes self-confidence and individual beauty by providing formal wear and accessories to high school teens who cannot otherwise afford them. Our effort is made possible through invaluable volunteer, donor, and community support via donations and financial gifts to further our goals here in the greater Los Angeles area.

By creating a positive, safe environment for teens and their families to come to and find the formal wear desired in an environment that embraces and celebrates all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation, disabilities and bodies of all shapes and sizes, our work goes far beyond formal wear to instill a sense of pride and confidence in the thousands of teens that we reach each prom season and to help support special moments in their lives. Our goal is to reach teens at a pivotal moment in their lives and give them an experience that they will forever cherish, as we celebrate with them their passage into adulthood.
