Mission Statement

We build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities by enriching the lives of all people in spirit, mind, and body.

Description

The Richmond district YMCA, one of the branches of the YMCA of San Francisco, was founded in May 1922 in a small storefront on Geary Boulevard. It began by offering a few boys clubs and within two years expanded to include a game room, library, two club rooms, and a small gymnasium. Today, with over 3000 members and program participants, we offer: before, during, and after school care; summer camp; family programs; teen programs; senior programs; adult health and fitness; and a variety of community programs, from food assistance for low income immigrants to free community health days. We pride ourselves in providing a diversity of programs that our community wants and needs, whether it's low cost, quality after school care or the lunch time club at Washington High School for lesbian and gay youth. All of our programs are made as affordable as possible, and we offer financial assistance for those who can not afford them. All of our programs have at their core leadership development, as well as our character values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Our mission: We build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities by enriching the lives of all people in spirit, mind, and body.
