Tsum Valley trek

Medical providers, dentists, dental assistants, nurses, nonmedical support staff needed to provide primary care and dental care in Tsum Valley, recovering from 2015 earthquakes.

Our team will hike 6 days through the remote Himalaya on the Manaslu and Tsum trails to villages that lie between 6,000 and 10,500 feet to provide 10 days of medical and dental care to people with minimal access to care. A nurse will screen each patient with the help of a Tibetan translator. Vital signs and a complete medical history, chief complaint, and demographic information will be recorded. A medical provider and/or a dentist will see the patient. Nonprofessional volunteers will help organize patient flow as well as staff the pharmacy with an orientation to medications provided beforehand. Accommodations include tea houses and tents. Our trek is fully supported by Nepali guides and porters. Volunteers need only carry a day pack. Team members from 2016 effort described the experience as life-changing.
