The Teaching Kitchen Assistant will assist during classes in The Teaching Kitchen. The Teaching Kitchen Assistant will engage with families, assist with class preparation, and help clean-up between classes.
Reports to: Teaching Kitchen Coordinator
Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Be friendly, engaging, and fun while representing the Museum in a positive and professional manner
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines
- Engage with families during class by helping to guide from one task to the next, asking probing questions, and thanking them for coming to class
- Gather and set necessary equipment for class, with guidance
- Wash and dry dishes between classes to reset
- Assist Chef as necessary
- Interact with Museum guests while distributing food samples using The Tasting Cart
Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Preferred to have experience with cooking, at home or in professional kitchen
- Capable of working individually and as part of a team
- Dedicated and dependable, reliable and responsible
- Attention to detail and organized
- Familiar with Museum policies, procedures, operations and staff
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Physical Working Conditions and Effort
- Must be able to move/stand for 4 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 30-40 lbs.
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy
Training
- Attend New Volunteer Orientation
- On the job training will be provided to include: program structure, general use of the kitchen, overview of safety and sanitation guidelines, program details
Commitment
- FLEXIBLE!Museum hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9am-4pm; Wednesday: 9am-7:30pm; Saturday, Sunday: 10am-5pm. Variable hours: 4-6 hoursper week
- Minimum of three months
- Must be on time for all scheduled shifts and notify supervisor if sick or unable to attend
