Yes, people with disabilites riding horses!
This is an incredible opportunity to work around horses and support a wide range of children and adults with disabilities. For students, its one of the easiest and most unique ways to complete your hours. Plus, if you hate exercising but know you should, Free Rein is a fantastic way to get moving for an hour or more!
We need up to three volunteers per rider. Everyone is trained as a sidewalker first - this job entails supporting the rider physically, but also assisting them with games and directions. We also have "leaders" who are responsible for preparing and leading the horse in class. Lastly, we sometimes need "assistants" to help in class and be on the ground, hands free, in case of an emergency and in classes that don't have sidewalkers.
So whether you have a passion for horses or people, Free Rein offers both! We rely on volunteers to run our program and greatly appreciate your interest! Please contact the volunteer coordinator at volunteerfreerein@gmail.com to sign up or for more info! Please check out or website to get a better idea of what we offer! http://freereinspokane.com/

Description
To abandon oneself in the dance with a horse is to touch the infinite.
- Katie Solisti
Through the rhythm, movement, and personality of a horse, a rider gains physical, mental and social benefits.
People of all ages and disabilities can experience the feeling of controlling a horse, using their mind as well as their muscles in new ways, forming a bond with an animal that can go well beyond the activity of riding.
The advantage of a strong therapeutic riding center is having a place for riders, their families, and volunteers to learn and grow as well as build friendships and have a camaraderie with others in a caring and fun atmosphere.
