Position Title: Communications Intern
Reports To: Sydney Friend Sifferman, Communications Specialist

Position Summary:
The Communications Intern will work with the Communications Specialist and program staff to develop communications that benefit the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation community. This may include working with persons who have Parkinson’s, their caregivers/carepartners, family members, and community partners.
The intern will help manage communications for and promote NWPF’s programs and fundraising events, such as Yoga for Parkinson’s, educational conferences and Team Parkinson’s Walk Seattle. The intern will also develop content for weekly E-News Updates and the website.
Learning Objectives:
The internship may include the following objectives, based on the student’s interests.
* Develop publications such as flyers, newsletters, and press releases. * Develop social media and online content.
* Develop a storybank.
* Complete special projects and other duties as related to program and development communications.
* Work in databases/applications such as DonorPerfect Online, Constant Contact, social media and web content management systems.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications.
* Enrolled in a four year college/university in a field related to nonprofit leadership, communications, or English.
* Excellent computer skills in MS Office and online applications.
* Experience with or knowledge of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Foursquare, etc. is preferred.
* Innovative and strategic thinking skills.
* Ability to work independently while demonstrating teamwork.
* Desire to work in a nonprofit environment.
* Excellent writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to initiate, manage and complete multiple tasks on time.
* Desire to work with a diverse population including clients, families, volunteers and community partners.
* Genuine interest and passion for the mission of Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation.
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship. Arrangements can be made for intern to receive academic credit through their institution. Students will need to make these arrangements through their programs.
Hours & Travel:
Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation is open to working with students who have various needs for hours. Work is normally performed in an open office environment with some potential local travel. May require occasional weekend or evening work.

Description
The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation mission is simple: Improve the quality of life of people in the PD community right now. Tomorrow, there is unlikely to be a cure for this disease, but we know for certain that someone in the northwest will be diagnosed with PD. Our goal is to bridge that gap between diagnosis and cure, with the best evidence-based programming available at no or low cost. We want people to Move, Connect and Engage.
