ORGANIZATION: Eugene Public Library

Library Outreach volunteers assist staff in a variety of ways, including setting up at events, helping children and adults with hands on crafts/projects, providing handouts regarding Library services, helping tear down the event and reloading the van. A key part of this position is representing the Library to the public, and as such, volunteers should be comfortable providing customer service to a great diversity of people.

Physical Requirements: Volunteers should be comfortable lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds short distances. Standing, bending, and some fine-motor skill required.

Time Commitment: Outreach events occur at varying dates and times throughout the year. Volunteers on the Outreach Team will receive monthly emails with upcoming events in which volunteers are needed, and can elect to help as they are available. In general, each event will be a 2 - 4 hour time commitment. Ideally volunteers on this team will be available for two or more events each month.

Language: Fluency in the English language is necessary in this role. The ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

Training: Volunteers are provided training and support in all aspects of this position, including frequently asked questions, craft/project instruction, and booth/table setup. Some, not all, volunteers will be trained to drive the Library’s Maker Van. Those interested in this aspect of the opportunity will need to pass the City of Eugene’s driver background check and will receive additional training.
