Volunteers are a key component to the continued success of GCNSSC. By working within the agency, both groups and individuals can participate in a safe and welcoming environment. Our volunteers help serve meals to our clients in tour soup kitchen, Hinton's Cafe.
Lunch Shift: 11:45-1:30PM
Dinner Shift: 3:45PM - 6:00PM
Volunteers can donate their time in the kitchen any day of the week! Volunteers must be accompanied by adults 21 or over if they are between the ages of 16-18.

Mission Statement
The Grand Central Neighborhood Social Services Corporation is committed to providing immediate relief to Midtown Manhattan's homeless population. We offer both basic necessities (i.e. food, clothing, showers etc.) and a range of social services, including employment counseling, treatment referrals and housing assistance through our Mainchance Drop-In Center. It is our hope, that people will use our center as a bridge to a more secure life, networking and building upon their own skill in order to achieve their goals.
Description
The Grand Central Neighborhood Social Services Corporation's Mainchance Drop-In Center serves a diverse street homeless population of single adults in and around Midtown Manhattan. As one of the city's largest drop-in centers, we assist individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds and cultures. Many of our clients have been homeless for years.
We provide a broad range of social services to Midtown's homeless population including:
- Emergency Shelter
- Substance Abuse Services
- Crisis Intervention
- Assesment and Referral to Treatment Programs
- Individual and Group Counseling
- Showers
- Hot Meals
- Computer and Telephone Access
- Employment Workshops
- Spiritual Groups
- Clothing and Toiletries
- Referrals to Transitional and Permanent Housing

- PPD and HIV Testing
