Job Description:
The vision of the Emmaus Empowerment Project is to empower parents experiencing homelessness to build self esteem and define their aspirations. We depend on volunteers and community partner agencies to lead enrichment classes, such as a Parent Education Class. We are in need of a volunteer to co-lead a parenting class at the Emmaus Family Shelter on Thursday evenings for approximately 5-10 parents starting in September 2017. The class runs for 8 weeks and includes a final graduation party. The Parent Education Class Co-Facilitator will adapt existing curriculum, plan, prepare and facilitate educational workshops for families with children ages 0-17 years. The co-facilitator will play an important role in helping parents gain knowledge towards building healthy parenting skills.
Prefered Qualifications:
Have excellent people skills
Experience with parents and/or vulnerable populations
Experience with conducting workshops or public speaking
Bilingual in Spanish desired, but not required
Computer literate in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point
Reports to: D’Youville Center for Social Justice Director/Empowerment Project Coordinator
Responsibilities:
1. Attend volunteer orientation and a 1-hour informational "Road-Home" Tour to learn more
about Emmaus Inc.
2. Submit a volunteer application and CORI check
3. Collaborate with D’Youville Center for Social Justice Director to plan, prepare, and
implement Parent Education classes
4. Maintain professional and respectful relationships with the clients
5. Maintain confidentiality of client records and personal information
6. Open availability Thursdays 6-7pm. (Minimum commitment of 8 weeks required)
7. Commit to approximately 2 hours of service per week.
8. Other tasks as needed

Description
Emmaus Inc. was incorporated in 1985 and seeks to relieve the plight of the homeless through emergency shelter, permanent affordable housing, education and job training, and comprehensive support services.
Emmaus has served homeless families and individuals since January 1987. Each year, Emmaus helps over 2,500 different women, men, and children. On any given night, over 300 adults and children call Emmaus "home". Emmaus provides over 80,000 meals annually to our shelter guests and housing residents.
