Description
The Rockefeller State Park Preserve has tremendous value to the region as a natural, visual, recreational and historic resource. It provides an important service to the public by making natural resources, agricultural landscapes, architectural landscapes and their attendant benefits accessible in an area otherwise lacking in open space. The Park Preserve offers unique opportunities to interpret regional ecology and agriculture and to teach about resource protection and restoration; it also represents a rare vehicle for demonstrating present and historic uses of land, and the resulting impacts on landscapes and natural systems. Thus the Park Preserve has the capacity to draw connections on a number of levels between humans and the natural world. The Park Preserve significance to the region is underscored by its location within easy access to a population base of more than 11 million people. The Park Preserve is uniquely situated to bring Hudson Valley agricultural and environmental themes, as well as landscape architecture, to life for the regional public.
