Position & Responsibilities

Role Summary

Tubman’s Movement for Violence Prevention (MVP) program helps youth organize around violence prevention, facilitating classes that help teens expand their knowledge about violence prevention and giving them tools to become part of the "MVP Action Team" as a peer educator. With this knowledge they provide presentations to other youth and communities. The MVP Assistant works to promote, organize, and facilitate these trainings.

Position Responsibilities

  • Promote, coordinate, and facilitate MVP trainings using the established curriculum and materials
  • Communicate and collaborate to promote MVP programming through the MVP Action Team, writing a quarterly newsletter and managing MVP’s social media, and promoting events and activities such as an annual healthy relationships poster and video contest

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Strong communication skills, including experience with public speaking, community outreach and youth programming; creative, positive, flexible, and highly motivated
  • Interest in education around healthy relationships and violence prevention
  • Ability to work independently and to manage resources and time effectively
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and clients to foster a culturally inclusive environment

Time Committment and Availability

  • Minimum nine month commitment . 4-10 hours per week.

Supervision and Training -

  • Attend Tubman’s five-part Volunteer/Intern Orientation and Training
  • The MVP Assistant is supervised by the Violence Prevention Educators

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
