In-School Mentoring

The In School Mentoring program provides girls and boys with a role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with, within school grounds. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just hang out in the playground.

The In School Mentoring program requires a weekly visit of 1 hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.

The program strives to do the following:

  • provide a role model and a friend for girls and boys.
  • promote the importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers.
  • instil trust and self-confidence in order to make healthy decisions.
  • encourage leadership skills and independent thinking.
  • and above all, make a difference while having fun.
Teen Mentoring Program

The Teen Mentoring program provides girls and boys with a teen role model and a friend to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. This one on one match with a teen is meant to help children grow socially. These matches meet at the child’s elementary school during school hours where they engage in activities of common interest. Typically, the children are excused from class time and participate in fun activities such as board games, crafts or to just hang out in the playground.

The Teen Mentoring program requires a weekly visit of 1 hour for the duration of the school year. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during other school holidays.

The program utilizes teen mentors that are:

  • 16-18 years old.
  • Able to commit to one hour per week at an elementary school during school hours (ie spare block).
  • Are friendly, community minded and enjoy volunteering.

In some cases, teen mentors receive class credits for their involvement with the Teen Mentoring program or are interested in the program because of their involvement in a leadership club.
