Position Summary
This position will assist with daily development department operations in a fun and fast-paced fundraising environment. The Development Special Projects Intern will work directly with several members of the development team to help facilitate donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The intern will gain a thorough understanding of the different areas of fundraising, from prospect research to event management, and everything in between. He/she will learn to navigate and use the Raiser’s Edge donor database, and experience general, day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization.
Major Job Accountabilities
This is an estimate of the duties to be included in the internship. The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and development staff. Depending on experience and specific interests, intern will have the opportunity to work with supervisor in selecting a capstone project or area of focus for the session. All duties will be carried out with direction and supervision of Development staff.
Donor Solicitation: help assemble appeals for both individual and corporate/foundation donors; assist with fiscal year-end follow-up calls to donors
Prospect Management: update donor records in Raiser’s Edge
Donor Stewardship: assist with regular mailings of acknowledgement letters and pledge reminders; assist with sponsorship reporting
Prospect Research: research prospective donors and board members
- Donor Cultivation: assist with preparations and setup for development events
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational skills
- Comfortable engaging with donors over the phone
- Excellent computer skills, especially in data entry; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a strong attention to detail
- Able to conduct online research
- Able to work well with others as well as on an independent basis

1. Intern orientation
2. Policies and practices of development/fundraising procedures in a nonprofit cultural institution
3. Navigation and use of Raiser’s Edge and research software
4. Optional free trainings: The Ways of Play and Wakanheza
