About Minnesota Children's Museum
Minnesota Children’s Museum’s mission is sparking children’s learning through play. We are dedicated to providing children with a hands-on and stimulating environment to explore and discover. With locations in St. Paul, Rochester, and the Mall of America, MCM employs 65 full-time and 65 part-time employees and engages over 1,300 volunteers annually. Position Summary
We seek 1-2 enthusiastic individuals looking to gain experience in media relations, pitching, digital storytelling and social media at a non-profit serving over 400,000 visitors a year in sparking children’s learning through play. The ideal applicant will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including various social media sites.Major Job Accountabilities
The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the External Relations department.
- Fully support company’s PR strategy and execute it in different phases
- Create and curate engaging content
- Communicate and build relationships with current or prospect clients
- Effectively utilize company’s social media and blogs
- Create and distribute press releases
- Build and update media lists and databases
- Schedule, coordinate and attend various events
- Perform research and market analysis activities
- Assist in administrative duties, including compiling contact lists, assisting with mailings and print production, and searching for press clippings.
- Formal education in journalism, public relations, or related field
- Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
- Knowledge and experience with AP style
- Solid understanding of the different social networks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills, including efficiency with MS Office and the ability to maintain databases
- Passion for the PR industry and its best practices
