Light the Night Walk is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual fundraising Walk, held on fall evenings in communities across the United States and Canada. Participants pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer, walking in twilight, and holding illuminated lanterns-white for survivors, red for supporters, gold in memory of loved ones lost. It’s an evening filled with warmth and emotion, a show of support for a community that cares.

This year the Orange County Light The Night event will be taking place on Saturday, September 21' st at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Below are the proposed time slots for volunteers.

Pre-Event (Friday, September 20th)

Event set-up (2pm-6pm): Set-up tables, chairs, hang signage, decorations, etc.

Day of Event (Saturday, September 21st)

Set-Up (9am-1pm): Festival and route set-up for all areas. During this shift we will also have Vendors, Entertainment, and Special Guests checking in, you may be of assistance in directing and helping them find their location while ensuring their set-up is complete.

Event Shift (3pm-8pm): This shift will be responsible for maintaining upkeep of all Festival Areas, managing line control and ensuring that guests have a memorable and positive experience. This could include t-shirts or lantern distribution, refilling water, Kid Zone supplies, giveaways and other misc. items. After the festival ends and the Walk begins, volunteers may be moved on the route where we encourage cheering!

Walk Route/Closing Shift (6:00pm-11:00pm): Route volunteers will be placed along critical points of the route in which you may: hand out specialty product, ensure the route is moving smoothly and cheer participants. We encourage volunteers to be upbeat and have fun! After the Walk, you may help with the Beer Garden and clean-up festival area. This shift will also focus on the clean-up and tear down of our festival area, walk route, and other areas. May include chairs/tables, loading supplies, trash, and other tasks.

Please note that the time slot selected is not guaranteed until you have been contacted by a Light The Night staff member. We ask that you be available for the entire shift. You will be assigned your specific job duty on the day of the event; we cannot let you know which area you will be in prior to the Walk.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.

Description

Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.

In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Oklahoma Chapter was founded to serve residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The chapter serves all 77 counties in the state.
