AmeriCorps* VISTA Members: A Community Strengthening & Community Stabilization Project in Orlando, Florida

ONIC is seeking 1 outstanding individuals to each provide one year of service through Americorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America).

ONIC's proposed youth after-school program (YAP)will operate to prevent and reduce the incidences of juvenile delinquency, crime, and other problem behaviors, improve community involvement and increase academic achievement and engagement. This program will operate as a holistic, community- and family-based approach to tackling the achievement between children in poverty-stricken communities and their more affluent peers. In addition to offering community-based tutoring & structured activities, YAP will innovate in addressing the factors in a student's home life that often impact academic success negatively: instability of housing, lack of food or clothing, unaddressed emotional or behavioral issues, unemployment, childcare challenges, & financial instability. The YAP will serve as a resource HUB with supportive activities, tutoring and academic enrichment. Structured sessions with learning enhancements will be combined with the ongoing Prodigy cultural arts classes to create HUBs where youth can learn and grow and their families can seek resources to sustain a positive family system.

Member Duties:

  • Aid and guide in the establishing of a system to engage youth and their families

  • Outline and establish plans and program timeline for startup, implementation, and evaluation)

  • Research and gather materials from existing activities that have proven effective

  • Develop a plan for coaching program, outline volunteer roles and priority topic

  • Design and outline volunteer training using the developed/respective

  • Coordinate and develop systems for tracking client progress and

  • Coordinate and establish the development of additional in-service programming

  • Coordinate and assist in developing youth service programming

  • Develop and assist in the creating of a training plan for volunteers and leaders to provide workshops for participants.

  • Assist and create a plan for marketing, outreach and recruitment.

  • Assist in developing tasks descriptions for volunteers

  • Coordinate community engagement events and partnership plans for increasing organizational/program support

  • Assist with and update the internal database to track mentor screening and matching.

  • Develop the marketing plan for to targeted audience

  • Assist in the design of marketing materials.

  • Assist in creating ONIC’s Youth recruitment, outreach and marketing binder / electronic folder with updated marketing materials

  • Assist in creating policies, procedures and implementation plan.

  • Assist in developing marketing and outreach plan

  • Coordinate the Community assessment implementation

  • Coordinate the Network of partners and volunteers established

  • Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Relocation Allowance , Training , Health Coverage* , Living Allowance , Childcare assistance if eligible .
