FIRST LEGO League is a STEM program and introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. Guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, teams discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society. Mentors will assistant the coach with helping our students with the 2017-18 challenge project.

A Mentor:

  • Must be 18 years or older to volunteer, teaching others what they know
  • Brings either technical or non-technical expertise to the team
  • Is willing to contribute on a weekly basis during competition season, or support the team with subject matter expertise on an as needed basis.
  • Helps students do as much of the work as possible.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: Building a promising future for the children of southeast Atlanta.

Description

East Atlanta Kids Club is a nonprofit, out-of-school -time tutoring, mentoring and enrichment program for under-resourced girls and boys ages 7 to 17. The club was formed in 1998 by local residents hoping to give youth who otherwise have limited after-school and summertime options a safe and stimulating place to play, to learn and to express themselves under the supervision of caring adults. Our program began with a dozen youth and a handful of community volunteers. We now offer a rich variety of educational and recreational activities and mentoring opportunities to more than 100 youth each year, free of charge.
