Attend an Info Session!

Silver Lining Mentoring is currently in need of dedicated, caring adults to become Life Skills Mentors to youth with foster care experience. You don’t need a special background to be a mentor, just a desire to be a supportive, consistent presence to a young adult who needs stable support as they develop life skills.

Become a Life Skills Mentor to a young person 16 or older who is preparing to age out of the foster-care system. You will support a young person as they learn critical life skills (including financial literacy, employment, educational progression) and when mentees demonstrate their learning, they have the opportunity to earn and save money that Silver Lining Mentoring then matches dollar for dollar, enabling young people to build financial assets!

In the city of Boston, Latino youth are nearly five times more likely than white youth to live in poverty. For black men, the unemployment rate is almost four times that of white men. We especially need role models of color to be the supportive adults that can give our youth the support and role models they deserve!

Will you or someone you know be part of the solution by becoming a mentor? If so, take the first step by joining us for an info session! Your commitment can help us build a whole community of supports around our youth.

Mentors must be at least 21 years old and all are encouraged to learn more.

Mission Statement

Silver Lining Mentoring empowers foster and adopted youth to flourish through committed mentoring relationships.

Description

Silver Lining Mentoring is the only mentoring organization in Massachusetts that exclusively serves youth in foster care. Founded in 2001, Silver Lining empowers foster youth in Greater Boston to flourish through committed mentoring relationships and the development of essential life skills. We provide long term one-to-one mentoring and life skills development for young people who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Our volunteer mentors are often the only adults in our youth’s lives who are not paid to spend time with them.
