The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. Apply to be a fitness volunteer at Good Samaritan Society-Lake Forest Village if you love helping people, enjoy working with older adults, love to teach and assist classes or activities, and want to make a positive difference in our community through wellness! Fitness volunteers help make it possible for the Wellness Office to provide a wide variety of wellness opportunities to residents, 55 and older.
Responsibilities: Fitness volunteers work in the campus gym as monitors and coaches, making sure residents are safe and are assisted if needed. They also help onboard new gym members, etc. Fitness Volunteers lead or assist with group fitness classes, provided by the Wellness Office, as well as assist with recreational games, such as chair volleyball, shuffleboard, senior tennis, pickleball, etc. They also give wellness related Power-Point presentations (provided) and help with any other wellness-related projects or activities.
This opportunity is great for students and others who would like to work with older adults through wellness as part-time volunteers. Volunteer schedules are usually assigned any time (based on availability) Monday-Friday, mostly during the hours of 9-5 pm . However, sometimes activities are scheduled later in the evening. There is also a volunteer meeting once a month on Saturday Afternoons. Activities on the weekends are seldom but occasionally are assigned as needed and according to availability. Some volunteer appreciation events are occasionally after 5 pm during the week.
Preferred Education: Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health Studies, Nutrition, Education and other fields related to health, wellness, and education. If you do not have a related degree or are not pursuing one buthave an interest or passion in teaching and leading activities, please apply! Training is provided for the gym.
Requirements: All volunteers are required to submit to a general background check and attend a general volunteer orientation, scheduled per availability.
