Make a Difference and Become A Wellness Volunteer!

Apply to be a Wellness Volunteer at Good Samaritan Society-Lake Forest Village if you love helping people, enjoy working with older adults, love to teach and assist classes or activities, and want to make a positive difference in our community through wellness! Wellness Volunteers help make it possible for the Wellness Office to provide a wide variety of wellness opportunities to residents, 55 and older.

Responsibilities: Wellness volunteers lead or assist with group fitness and non-fitness wellness classes as well as assist with recreational games, such as Chair Volleyball and Senior Tennis, etc. They also give related Power-presentations and talks and help with any other wellness-related projects or activities. Volunteers can also help with clerical task in the Wellness Office. Instructions and other helpful material are provided for those who want to learn to lead and teach a class. Some wellness presentations are also developed already with notes and PowerPoint.

Though material are provided for classes and presentations, volunteers are encouraged to combine their passion, creativity, and knowledge/experience to create their own classes, presentations, and activities (per approval) as well, if they would like to expand their skills in development as well as in teaching and instruction of which is useful for a developing resume or CV.

This opportunity is great for students and others who like to work with older adults and who would like to expand their skill set. However, please note that a volunteer schedule is developed and emailed weekly. There is also a volunteer meeting once or twice a month that all volunteers must attend. The volunteer's schedule depends on their availability.

Areas of Preferred Education/Interests: Wellness, nutrition, Health Studies, Kinesiology, Education, and other fields related to health, wellness, or education. If you do not have a degree or are not pursuing one but have an interest or passion in teaching classes and leading activities, please apply!

Requirements: All potential volunteers are required to submit to a general background check, attend a general volunteer orientation, and attend volunteer meetings. Volunteers who teach classes or lead an activity are responsible for arriving on time or early (if they need to setup) and should call in advance if they cannot make it to their class or activity for any reason.
