Oak City Soccer is on Sundays only. Each group session is 1 hour in duration. We have classes which start at 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm. Volunteers are needed for each hour, with the most help needed at 12pm and 1pm. Volunteers can sign up for just one hour or multiple hours. Volunteers will act as a buddy helping a child stay on task and encourage social interactions such as greetings, compliments to peers, turn taking, and high fives. We will play simple games such as red light/green light, passing, dribbling, shots on goal, etc. Our athletes range from 2-11 years old with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing challenges, developmental delays, and/or social anxiety.

No soccer experience required. Please wear close toed/athletic shoes and modest clothes you can safely do physical activity in.

About OAK CITY SOCCER

Mission Statement

To provide youth on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing challenges the opportunity to play soccer while fostering social skills and creating awareness and acceptance within the community.

Description

Oak City Soccer was founded in April 2016 by an occupational therapist and soccer enthused autism parents to provide a supportive and nurturing place for children to learn and enjoy soccer. We provide specialized soccer instruction for children ages 2 and up with autism or sensory processing challenges in a safe and adaptive environment. We use a volunteer buddy system to provide support and encouragement to our participants throughout the sessions. We customize classes based on age, skill, and assist level needed. We focus on soccer skills as well as coordination, motor planning, social skills, and sportsmanship.

Our goal is to continue providing soccer instruction while cultivating the skills needed to transition into typical leagues. This also includes establishing a modified league to facilitate the transition and ensure optimal success and fun from our participants.
