Candidate must commit to starting on September 1, 2017 and serve for a total of 900 hours as a full-time (40 hours a week) member for six months to February 28, 2018. There may be part-time (20 hours a week) positions available to serve for a full year from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018. Pay is a living allowance of $6,381 over the course of the term of service.

Serve with Arkansas’sonly licensed child development center and youth program specifically targeted to homeless and near-homeless families. As a Youth Program AmeriCorps member, you will serve our Kindergarten to 12 th grade youth afterschool and on school-out days (breaks, teacher in-service days) to ensure our youth have enriching, fun, and safe environments and activities. You will serve in one of the homerooms (K-2 nd, 3 rd-5 th, 6 th-12 th), provide homework help and help youth maintain or improve their grades, assist in design and implementation of enrichment activities (STEM, arts, cultures, fitness, life skills), facilitate parent engagement programming, organize service project to benefit our youth and parents, and participate with the rest of the team in days of service, team meetings, and professional development. Thanks to your service, our youth will have fulfilling academic goals, will be set on a path toward achievement of their life goals, and will overcome barriers related to the trauma of homelessness.

All candidates must enjoy working with youth, have a positive attitude, and serve as a role model for Our House clients. High school diploma or GED is required. A background in youth development and/or relevant college courses preferred.

After a completed term, you are eligible to receive a $2,907.50 Education Award that can be used toward future educational expenses or to pay off federal student loans. Full-time members are also eligible for healthcare coverage.

Description

Our House operates an 80-bed shelter, a 39-bed family housing program (18 family rooms), an education and job training center, a licensed child development center, and a feeding program that serves over 45,000 meals per year. Our House also offers additional free services that help people transform their lives. Services include one-on-one case management, after school and summer programs, parenting classes and job search assistance. Our House programs help people become successful members of the workforce, the community, and their own families.
