Free, honest, and open elections are under siege - and not just by outside forces, but also from within our own political system. From voter suppression to gerrymandering, from dark money to computerized vote rigging, Americans’ most essential democratic rights seem threatened at every turn.

If you believe informing voters about these perils is the free press’ most critical function...if you think we should improve and protect our elections every day, and not just during an election year ...then WhoWhatWhy wants your help.

Our investigative news organization is expanding its Election Integrity Unit and we are looking for volunteers who want to protect the right to vote for all Americans before the country slides further into oligarchy.

If you are diligent at researching, reliable and committed to preserving democracy, then we want to hear from you.

A prior interest in election integrity issues or journalistic experience is preferred, but enthusiastic novices with a drive to learn and a willingness to work hard are also encouraged to apply.

What You Bring

  • An inquisitive mind that seeks the truth.

  • A passionate desire to expose the weaknesses of our voting system.

  • Creativity in brainstorming new investigation angles and topics.

  • Initiative to go above and beyond, and work efficiently in a remote setting.

  • Strong communication abilities.

What You Do

  • Conduct investigation and research on enthralling topics.

  • Identify sources, subjects and investigation opportunities for developing articles.

  • Contribute to the construction of groundbreaking stories, by analyzing and integrating the facts we uncover.

What You Get

  • A priceless experience.

  • An impressive portfolio.

  • Rewarding relationships with highly regarded individuals in the industry.

  • A deeper understanding of the world.
