THE ONE LOVE WRITERS CORPS

Do you have a way with written words? Do you have a [healthy] obsession with making sure your friends, family or loved ones know the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships? Do you feel comfortable writing anything from tips to advice to pop culture to thought pieces?

If you answered yes to these questions, you should consider joining our annual One Love Writers Corps!

WHAT IS THE ONE LOVE WRITERS CORPS?

Glad you asked! The One Love Writers Corps is a virtual team of 5-8 writers (ages 18 +) who are committed to helping One Love grow our digital content on joinonelove.org.

We’re looking for some amazing writers to help us build our team. As a One Love Writer Corps member, you will commit to:

  1. A bi-weekly, 30-minute "newsroom" like call/video chat. Pending everyone’s schedule, these calls may take place at different times on alternating weeks (i.e., 12pm ET on week 1 and 6pm ET on Week 3). In this meeting, we’ll talk about recent news and trends as well as pass out any assignments for the week.
  2. Commit to either 4, 5 or 6 pieces of digital content you’ll produce to be published on joinonelove.org with your name on it (spread out across the Fall period).

BENEFITS OF JOINING

The One Love Writers Corps is not without perks. Here are a few:

  • A small stipend at the end of the Fall for writers who meet all the commitments.
  • Ability to list "One Love Writers Corps member" on your resume and LinkedIn.
  • Opportunity to bounce ideas with other writers who are passionate about empowering others to have the relationship(s) in life that they deserve.
  • Fun! Lots of it!

THIS SOUNDS AMAZING! HOW DO I JOIN?

It’s simple! To apply, send an email to Jalesa at Jalesa.Tucker@joinonelove.org by 5 pm August 13, 2021. In your application, please send along the following:

  1. Why you’re pumped to join the One Love Writers Corps in 160 characters or less. Really pitch us here
  2. Share 3 article ideas your think we should cover on our blog (e.g. 5 times when "I love you" means something else"

  3. In 500 words or less write a mini-article on one of the topics below:

    - Emotion abuse in relationships

    - Financial abuse in relationships

Mission Statement

One Love exists because Yeardley was killed and her death was avoidable. Today, we work to ensure that everyone has information about unhealthy relationship behaviors that could lead to relationship abuse.

Description

One Love was founded in 2010 after Yeardley Love, a senior at the University of Virginia, was killed by her ex-boyfriend, also a UVA scholar athlete. After her death, Yeardley’s friends and family were stunned to learn that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be in an abusive relationship in their lifetime. Young women ages 16-24 are at 3X greater risk and have limited awareness of that fact. One Love exists because Yeardley was killed and her death was avoidable. Today, we work to ensure that everyone has information about unhealthy and abusive relationships that Yeardley, her friends and her family did not. We want everyone to understand the danger in these types of relationships and empower them to leave an unhealthy situation-or help a friend leave-before it escalates to abuse.
