Spanish Support Group Facilitator (SAN FRANCISCO)
Report To: Heather Gray, Family Support Coordinator, East Bay office/Lafayette
Major Tasks: To understand the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and the important role support groups play in this mission. Facilitate or co-facilitate a support group for family members and caregivers seeking assistance, emotional support and information on all topics related to Alzheimer’s disease: caregiving from diagnosis through the continuum of care, legal issues, research and advocacy information and opportunities.
Qualifications: Willingness to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia as well as caregiving issues and community resources available to families. Excellent listening and communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish required. With a commitment to outreach to all ethnic and cultural communities, the facilitator must be comfortable working with diverse groups of people. Self-starter, capable and willing to take own initiative and work independently with staff guidance and support. Respect for confidentiality. Dependability and reliable transportation required.
Location: Support Group Facilitator will be assigned to one of the Spanish support groups offered in the San Francisco Bay area, depending upon vacancies and volunteer’s ability to travel. This opportunity is located in San Francisco
Commitment: 3-4 hours, monthly. One-year minimum commitment.
Training: General volunteer interview/orientation and one day-long training held in
San Jose or Lafayette office.

We provide programs and support services for patients, families, caregivers, and others in the San Francisco Bay Area affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Outside the federal government, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest research funder in the country and offers advocacy opportunities to make public policy change.
