Purpose/Objective: FOOD RESCUE! Repacking bulk frozen pasta into home freezer quantities (2 pound bags) for families - distributed through our network of partner agencies.
Location: Ankeny Cold Storage;1430 SECortinaDr,Ankeny, IA. Please sign in and wait for instructions to enter the warehouse.
Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator, Group Leader (if available)
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Assemble boxes with assigned products
- Pack loose frozen pasta into baggie and close baggie
- Pack assembled boxes onto pallets as assigned
- Restock assembly line table as necessary
- Break down cardboard for recycling (sorted by corrugated vs. paperboard) and dispose of trash
- Other tasks as assigned by Group Leader, Volunteer Coordinator, Program Coordinator, or Warehouse Staff
Length of Appointment/Time Commitment: Shift as assigned; generally 2-3 hours
Qualifications:
- Able to stand, move, bend, and lift in warehouse environment
- Able to safely use box cutter, packing tape dispenser, other warehouse tools or equipment
Support/Training: Instructions/training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift
Age Requirement: Minimum age of 16
Dress Code: Closed-toed shoes are required; no exceptions. Dress comfortably and in layers for a refrigerated warehouse environment.

Description
From the time the dock doors opened in 1982, we have maintained our No. 1 priority - maximizing "food in - food out" to meet the critical needs of a diverse population through our network of partner agencies in 55 Iowa counties.
As a non-profit food bank, our primary role is to provide food to the charitable agencies offering direct service to hungry Iowans.
These partner agencies include:
- Food pantries
- Soup kitchens
- Homeless shelters
- Shelters for victims of domestic violence
- Nonprofit day care centers
- Residential care centers
- Child and senior programs
Along with traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa also operates three successful programs: Backpack Buddies, HUSH and the Fresh Produce Project.
