ORGANIZATION: South County Outreach

Do you have free time during the week? Are you interested in helping families in need in your community? Are you a strong team leader who enjoys working with others? South County Outreach has a volunteer opportunity for you!

The Food Pantry at South County Outreach provides emergency food for 2,000-3,000 families in need each month. We frequently invite corporate groups to come in and volunteer for service projects in our food pantry. Groups will assist with sorting through food donations and stocking our shelves.

Responsibilities for the Volunteer Service Project Leader:

The Service Project Leader Volunteer will help with leading and directing groups of volunteers who come into the pantry. The Service Project Leader will give the group directions, show them what needs to be done, and lead them for 2-3 hours of service.

The Service Project Leader will be trained by the Volunteer Manager on staff. They will receive a full Food Pantry training and will have many opportunities to shadow the Volunteer Manager before leading their own projects.

We are seeking someone who is motivated, loves working with others, and can handle a fast-paced environment. This position is really fun because you get to work with many different groups from around the community who are enthusiastic and excited about volunteering.

Time Commitment:

Availability during the week. Typically 2-3 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

Mission Statement

South County Outreach is a nonprofit organization committed to preventing hunger and homelessness in Orange County by helping people in need help themselves.

Description

South County Outreach (SCO), founded in 1989, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing homeless prevention services to low-income individuals and families in crisis in South Orange County.

Through a variety of programs, South County Outreach gives families in need the help they need and the tools to become self-sufficient. Our Food Pantry distributes nearly one million pounds of emergency, non-perishable and fresh food to an average of 9,000 families annually. Our housing programs provide subsidized housing and professional case management services to local families who are homeless or on the verge of being homeless. Our Computer Learning Lab teaches more than 600 students annually who are unemployed and underemployed to improve their skills and increase job opportunities.

We are a volunteer-based organization with over 250 regularly scheduled volunteers and 1,500 occasional volunteers that help throughout the year.
