ORGANIZATION: Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area

The Mount Pleasant BIA is looking for skilled and dedicated individuals with experience in public art, visual art, and community initiatives to become part of the Mural Support Team for the first ever Vancouver Mural Festival, which will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2016. This brand new festival, hosted in part by the BIA, will debut 20+ murals to the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood and feature many local and internationally acclaimed artists.

As Mural Support Volunteers, you will be expected to assist mural artists on site throughout the duration of the painting process, and act as mural art ambassadors to the public. This is will be a great opportunity to meet and connect with local and international artists, learn about the fine arts industry, and experience the transformation of the local art scene in Vancouver. Mural Support Volunteers will have the chance to network, make vital connections, and learn about possibilities for future careers in arts and culture.

Mural Monitors are expected to be available to volunteer from August 13 to 19 as part of the support team with flexible shifts available.
There will be a MANDATORY volunteer orientation on Wednesday, August 10th. More details will be emailed out closer to the day.

Mission Statement

The Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area’s (MPBIA) mandate is to create an enhanced business environment and to assist our members with any related individual concerns.

Description

We are the second oldest BIA in Vancouver, founded in 1989 by local business people who saw a BIA as being an important vehicle to improve their business community and attain their collective goals. They understood a BIA can effectively organize and finance area improvement programs and marketing initiatives that would otherwise be unavailable to the individual local businesses.

We are very proud of the significant contributions this organization has made towards the amazing transformation that has taken place in our community. Main Street and Broadway is now a place that any business can be proud to call home and is considered one of the most desirable places to live in the city.

Our volunteer Board of Directors are duly elected members from among our local business people and property owners. They donate significant time and effort working your behalf both at the board and committee level.

Our organization exists to serve needs of the local community and we encourage you to become involved. Let us know of any concerns you may have, and your suggestions for beneficial initiatives we should pursue. Our Board of Directors, and our Executive Director, look forward to hearing from you.
