Are you fluent in Spanish? Would you like to share your skills in early childhood education and help empower the Latino community? Become a volunteer with the library’s Listos para el kinder program. Interested? Please continue reading for more information.

The Basics

Listos para el kinder (hereafter referred to as Listos) is Multnomah County Library’s successful early literacy program for Spanish-speaking families with children 3 to 5 years old. Listos empowers Latino parents to prepare their children for kindergarten. The program also provides parents the skills to use early learning activities in their children’s daily lives. The library is recruiting 6-8 volunteers to help as program assistants.

Time Commitment, Location & Dates

The time commitment is weekly or every other week for about 3 hours. Programs run for 13 sessions in about 3 months. Listos programs are offered at several libraries in East County. Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete Listos training

  • Understand the program’s purpose and be willing to take direction from facilitator

  • Meet with facilitator 10-15 minutes prior to every session to review the children’s activity for the day

  • Assist with room set-up and take-down

  • Organize materials for the session

  • Review children’s homework in an interactive way

  • Help with children's activities during the session


Special Skills and Qualifications
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to read and speak Spanish fluently
  • Early childhood development knowledge preferred
  • Experience working with preschoolers strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliable & able to commit 3 hours a week for 13 weeks
  • Ability to bend, stoop and lift 15+ lb boxes and tables
  • Manual dexterity and ability to collate packets
  • Ability to follow library policies and procedures
  • Organization skills for keeping track of detailed processes (class/session)


Training & Orientation

A 2-hour in-person training is required. Site orientation and ongoing training will also be provided.
