The Health Access Department of the YWCA is focused on eliminating health disparities based in race, gender, income and geography. We provide nonclinical interventions to make it easier for community members to be healthy including healthcare navigation, case management, health education, resource linkage, social and emotional support and participant advocacy.
The Health Access Department has a rooftop space in which we have used as a garden previously, but have not been able to turn into a sustainable program for the use of our residents of our downtown Seattle building. We are seeking a few dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers to help lead this garden project from start to finish!
The volunteers will develop and provide assistance to residents in community garden. The volunteers are expected to give information on gardening and healthy eating. Volunteer will be in charge of developing a year long outline and teach the residents about gardening cycles. The position has a strong requirement of a minimum of a 6 month time commitment.
It is expected that the volunteer be knowledgeable about:
- Gardening
- Plant knowledge
- Rainwater conservation/collection/city rain barrels
- Healthy eating
Responsibilities:
- Restore existing garden beds
- Create year long program, outline what needs to happen (tasks/timing)
