The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks need volunteers (age 14+) to help at the Fall Fest "Fishing Derby" on Saturday, September 16th at the Des Plaines Lake Park (Touhy Ave. and Lee St.). The derby runs from Noon-2pm, so volunteers are needed 11:30am-2:30pm. Additional hours may be available from the Park District ( www.dpparks.org). Wear comfy clothes! Volunteers will be assisting with distributing fishing poles and bait, monitoring the derby, taking photos, and tallying scores. Prizes will be awarded to the children with the biggest fish!

The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks' mission is to: Promote parks, recreational and cultural activities, and a healthier lifestyle for the citizens of Des Plaines by providing and administering scholarships for residents to participate in a variety of Park District activities.
Description
As a 501 (c)(3) non-profit we:
- Organize events to raise funds for scholarships to support the youth of the Des Plaines Park District
- Support the efforts of the Des Plaines Park District as volunteers at their events
- Stimulate and further public interest in parks and recreation, and the preservation of park and recreational resources
- Educate the citizens of Des Plaines Park District upon the value of quality parks and recreational/conservative services
